FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Ginger Man and SBC Restaurant &
Brewery are Chowdafest Champs
but The CT Food Bank is the Real Winner!
WESTPORT, CT - November 30, 2009.
Over 4,000 votes were cast at the 2nd Annual Chowdafest
competition last week held at the Unitarian
Church in Westport.
Twenty two local area restaurants competed in this popular chowder and
soup competition where nearly 1,400 people came to be an "official judge." The event proceeds were donated to Connecticut Food Bank
again this year which they will use to provide nearly 15,000 meals.
Connecticut Food Bank expects to serve 300,000 people this year throughout the
state including Fairfield
County.
Hundreds of gallons of soup and chowders we're sampled
at the event with The Ginger Man's (Norwalk/Greenwich) Sweet Potato Clam
Chowder and SBC's (Stamford/Southport) Thanksgiving Bisque being voted the best
by the narrowest of margins. The winners were announced
live on Channel 12 Saturday evening during the 10:00 news.
"We kept hearing how much
people liked our chowder during the event so we felt we had a great chance"
said manager Kerry Brady, The Ginger Man.
"We had the restaurant TV's tuned into Cablevision in to hear the live
announcement that night and the whole place cheered when we saw we won." Ginger Man Executive Chef, Bart Tracy, creator
of the winning recipe said "This means a lot as we beat some great
competitors".
